Welcome! The For the Future HD-28-Katy Candidate Forum on Public Education, is part of a series of over 50 public education candidate events that the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation will be hosting across the state through the 2020 elections. This forum will be for Texas House District 28.
The date of the Candidates Forum is October 6, 2020 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM. This will be considered a Hybrid (In-Person) Event. We are hosting the forum in person at the Chamber location which will be sanitized prior to the candidates' arrival.
The location of the forum is 814 East Avenue, Ste. G, Katy, TX 77493. The event will be closed to the public and will be live streamed on Facebook Live. Due to social distancing and capacity restrictions, we are only allowing the candidates, Chamber staff, and a single representative from our media partners to attend.
Upon arrival, each candidate will have their temperature taken and will need to sign a form indicating whether they have had any symptoms of COVID-19 or not.
Candidates are asked to remain socially distanced and will be separated into groups by the position they are running for. They will remain socially distanced in their respective “pods” for the duration and will wear a mask when not in front of the camera answering questions. The desk in front of the camera will be sanitized between speakers for their protection. We will have water and light snacks for your convenience.
This forum is co-sponsored by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to being in-person, this forum will also be broadcast via Facebook Live on October 6, 2020 from 6PM to 7:00PM at https://www.facebook.com/RYHTWestHouston.
The candidates that have filed for this race are:
- Gary Gates (Incumbent-Republican)
- Dr. Eliz Markowitz (Democrat)
Like all For the Future events, this will be an issue-focused conversation including questions on statewide and local topics. All candidates for House District 28 are invited to participate, and the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation will not endorse candidates.
We hope you’ll be able to join us for this important conversation!
